Wristwatch with rectangular case
Square wristwatches
A wristwatch for every man should be an essential accessory. Firstly, it emphasizes his punctuality, and secondly, it gives convenience. Square wristwatches are far from a sign of classics. A large dial is a sign of strict style. However, they are unusual and combine the highest quality and beauty. The heart of this accessory is a mechanism. In the presented models, all parts of the design, including this one, meet the necessary requirements and can ensure reliable and long-term use of the watch
Features
The square shape opens up more opportunities not only for designers, but also for developers of new models. That is why among the watches with an ultramodern appearance, there are most often instances with a square or rectangular dial. Despite its streamlined shape, the round dial is considered more rigid and does not give such freedom of action as an angular, square or rectangular structure.
A wristwatch with a rectangular case
Originally all watches were produced in a round form. Cartier did not introduce the first square watch until 1904. It was not just the first square-shaped watch, but the first wristwatch for men in general - the Cartier Santos in a gold case.
Given that before the turn of the twentieth century there were no wristwatches for men at all, Cartier's design was a new take on a familiar product. The rectangular shape of the dial emphasized the difference between the old-fashioned pocket watch and the new-fangled wristwatch. And by the 1920s, the square shape had become extremely popular, especially with the noble ladies of the time.
This popularity lasted until the Second World War, during which time round-shaped watches became even more popular, as they were easier to mass-produce. This was because most of the movement elements were round (gears and springs), so it was easier to fit them into a round case. Until the 1960s, round-shaped watches were the first choice.
The popularity of the square models was brought back by the famous personalities of the time - John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Steve McQueen. Following them, square watches started to be worn by everyone. Since then, some have formed the opinion that the more status watches are just models with a square dial. The explanation is that more often than not they are made by luxury brands that flicker on the hands of celebrities. In fact, all brands release square or rectangular models from time to time. These attract more interest and stand out strongly from the usual round models of other brands.
Watches with a square dial are quite rare among the classic models. They are mostly presented in a vintage or sporty style. Almost all square and rectangular watches are quartz, which eliminates the task of fitting the movement into a square case.
The advantage of a classic wristwatch with a rectangular case is elegance. The case flows seamlessly into the strap or bracelet. If the strap is thin, the manufacturer can intentionally reduce the size of the dial. The smaller the case, the fewer additional functions can be added to a watch with an analogue display.
In our catalogue you'll find a large selection of classic models with a rectangular case and a leather or silver strap. Available with a large oversized cirelate for larger men and models for smaller ladies. The colours available include dark and white shades.
